The following names are taken from the 1582 subsidy roll of London. Around 7500 people are listed in this roll, both native English people and foreigners who have made London their home. The names of the foreigners have generally been identified with their nearest English equivalents (e.g. Dutch Jan was recognizable as a cognate with English John), but when there was no easily recognizable equivalent, the scribe would do the best phonetic rendering that he could, e.g. Fetheryk (perhaps for Frederick?). As a result, it's quite difficult sometimes to identify what the original underlying name is, though the majority of the foreigners appear to be Dutch and French, with a few Spaniards and Italians.
I have split the names into various lists:
Surnames of English men & women A - M
Surnames of English men & women N - Z
