Ordinary language is all right.
One could divide humanity into two classes:
those who master a metaphor, and those who hold by a formula.
Those with a bent for both are too few, they do not comprise a class.

Animals will kill things and eat them. Or sometimes just kill them. Like it's something to do.
When pets enter the room we don't think, there's an animal in the room! (But there are people with exotic pets.)
But there are plenty of places where we will say, 'How did a dog get in here?!'.
'Territorial' is a way of saying how, where, and when, someone will not give way.
Our efforts at cooperation are a joke compared to those of animals. Imagine them having a meeting.
Often little animals will not get as much as they want; big ones will take whatever they please.
