Ordinary language is all right.
One could divide humanity into two classes:
those who master a metaphor, and those who hold by a formula.
Those with a bent for both are too few, they do not comprise a class.

Still hovering in the 90s, now even improbably later at night. A woman in a sundress crosses the street at the light downtown where I'm stopped. Besides the sundress she has a sweater—and bare feet! I don't know which is more surprising. But probably the feet; she doesn't hop and dance over the blacktop like her soles are being burned.
